Pregnancy Yoga
Yoga is the ideal practice to promote well-being
and facilitates the transition to parenthood. It has been specifically
designed to meet the changing needs of pregnant women. Yoga is
a holistic therapy where women will be involved in simple exercises,
effective breathing techniques and relaxation methods and is widely
recommended by doctors and midwives as a way of keeping fit and
mobile.
There
a numerous benefits of Yoga during and after pregnancy, some of
which are:-
- boosting energy levels
- relieving stress and anxiety
- promoting restful sleep
- keeping the body supple and strengthening muscles
- maintaining a healthy back and pelvic floor
- relieving common minor disorders of pregnancy
- promoting early bonding with the baby
Classes are informal, in an appropriate setting and provide a
supportive environment where women can share their experiences.
Sessions are taught by Babs Lehner-Platts, who is a certified
Birthlight and Yoga/Fitness Instructor with many years of teaching
experience. Just come along and bring a mat, a blanket and 3 cushions/pillows
to ensure your comfort for relaxation.
Baby Yoga
Many of us appreciate the health benefits yoga brings to our
adult body and mind, but how do you practise yoga with a baby?
Baby Yoga is a joint practice between the carer and the baby.
It enhances the emotional bond with our child as we learn to handle
our babies with confidence as well as relax and play together.
Some
of the physical benefits for your baby are:
- opening of the hip & knee joints
- strengthening of the muscles in legs & at the base of the
spine
- developing babies’ balance when sitting, crawling and
walking
- massaging and stimulating internal organs
- relief of tension in intestines
- help in prevention of colic and constipation
- opportunity for babies to spend time on their front to strengthen
neck muscles, shoulders, arms and backs
- stretching of chest to allow baby to breath more deeply to increase
level of oxygen to benefit all the organs
- improving the immune system.
Class format: The welcome ritual is followed by dry baby massage
and Yoga stretches for Mum. We then do various exercises on the
mat and then moving. The baby postures are linked with exercises
aiding the mothers’ postnatal recovery.
Relaxation is a key part of Yoga, and no less important in baby
yoga. It allows us to balance the activity of the yoga session
at the end of a class with a period of rest. Not only is this
a wonderful opportunity for a tired parent to re-energise but
it is a wonderful skill to pass onto a baby – the ability
to unwind is a gift for life.
YOGA BABIES ARE HAPPY BABIES!
Power Vinyasa
Power Vinyasa, which means breath-synchronized movement, is a
more vigorous style of Yoga based on the performance of a sequence
of poses such as Sun Salutations, in which movement is matched
to the breath.
This class is led by renowned yoga instructor and fitness expert
Babs Lehner-Platts. With her characteristic down-to-earth instruction
and fun approach, you will be guided through a series of yoga
postures that are physically challenging, yet can be done by the
average participant! The easy-to-follow sequences practised with
energy and enthusiasm, will produce amazing results!
Babs encourages you with clear instructions for each posture,
giving detailed explanations and corrections on correct alignment
throughout. The class is designed for any age or fitness level
and make it the perfect program from the absolute beginner to
the more experienced student.
A
Power Vinyasa class will typically start with Pranayama (breath
control), then incorporates standing and seated postures. This
leads into practicing Yoga Balances leading into mat work, which
brings the focus to core stability, which increase your stamina,
flexibility and energy levels. Relaxation will bring the class
to an end.
Class contents vary from one session to the next to prevent complacency
and to give the student constant challenges and goals to strive
for. Whilst we believe that Yoga classes should always be fun,
Babs encourages every student to remain mindfully focused on themselves
and to explore not only their strengths but also the limitations
of their body and mind.
Get ready to transform yourself and discover the Power of Yoga!
Please wear comfortable clothing and make sure you can wrap up
warm for relaxation (feel free to bring a blanket). Yoga is best
practised on an empty stomach or eat at least an hour and a half
before.
You will need to bring your own yoga or exercise mat (I usually
carry some spare), but it’s best to have your own. You can
either purchase them at a discounted rate from me or get them
from a sports shop.

Hatha
This class brings to you a unique combination of gentle ancient
and modern exercises for body and mind. Yoga improves strength
and flexibility and aids relaxation.
You
enjoy a combination of Yoga, Pilates based exercises, Tai Chi
and experience the joy of deep relaxation, which we practise both
at the beginning as well as at the end of each class. As an added
bonus you can make new friends and enjoy the sociable aspect of
this class.
Whatever your age, yoga can enhance your lifestyle. Older people
often find that gentle yoga exercises allow them to retain mobility
and may relieve problems such as arthritis and poor circulation.
Yoga can enable you to relax fully, and promotes sound sleep;
it also improves digestion and stimulates circulation.
Hatha Yoga courses run throughout the year for about 6-8 weeks
each (no classes in holidays) and are held at a very nice newly
refurbished venue (Red Cross Centre, Monteagle Lane, Yateley,
GU46 6LU). The group is kept to about 12 participants and therefore
must be booked in advance. However, you can come along and try
out a class first before committing yourself.
No previous experience is needed - everyone is very welcome!
Body Conditioning
Want to lose weight? Get back into shape? Look no further!
This class is extremely effective and very much fun!
It
is a total body workout combining upper/lower body strength and
endurance including core training and abdominal stabilisation.
There is a different format for every session using different
equipment and training styles. The ability of the class participants
is mixed and everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace!
Alternatives are given throughout to ensure that everyone can
work either really hard, or take it easier, if they need to. The
choice is yours! There is no competitive feeling in this group
– everybody does what is right for them.
We always start with a low impact aerobic warm-up and pre-stretches
followed by standing exercises for legs, tums and bums. The upper
body is worked at the same time by using weights or flexi bands.
The session moves onto the floor for some challenging mat work
highlighting core muscles and strength. The session ends with
stretching out all the muscles that have been worked in class.
If you need to get into shape – this is the one for you!
