Destination: Crete

Kissamos, also known as Kastelli, is a small town, with an attractive little harbour, lots of shops, cafeteria and tavernas mostly along the seafront.  It has a long history and a lively atmosphere;  a busy place, offering everything visitors may need.

It has still retained its natural charm and beauty with a network of cobbled streets and an area, which overlooks the sea, where you can find traditional Cretan fish restaurants.

Kastelli is a seaside resort, which attracts Greek tourists. Behind the coastal plain you find a stunning backdrop of mountains, an area, which is divided by gorges and craggy peaks. This provides for many easy grade walks, the chance to see birds of prey, vultures and wild flowers or to observe the old rural ways of living, like treading grapes.

The heart of town beats on the coast road, which is predominantly pedestrianised, letting visitors and residents alike enjoy a stroll by the sea.  This area is particularly fertile, rich in grapes, sultanas, wine and raki.  Kissamos is ideal for nature-lovers, who want to be close to gorges, ecological nature walks, and the beautiful beaches of Elafonissi, Falassarna and Balos (Gramvoussa).

Venue: Kastelli, Mavros Molos Beach

Our new Yoga venue is on the edge of Kastelli by Mavros Molos Beach, on the outskirts of the small town. The sea is clean, warm and shallow, so - easy to swim in. You can enjoy the long, quiet stretch of golden sandy beach interspersed occasionally with shingle.

Our hosts Mike and Maria own the beach-side taverna. They will be providing our delicious breakfasts after class, with home produced milk, eggs and cheese from their own small-holding.  On selected evenings during the week – we will enjoy vegetarian group dinners,  on other nights we will eat out and try the wonderful restaurants on the seafront.

Maria is a fantastic cook and during the week there will be the option of attending a cookery class where you will be taught how to prepare delicious, traditional Greek vegetarian meals.

All accommodation is close to the beach.  Rooms are simply furnished Cretan style, with air conditioning and en-suite facilities. Wherever possible, people are accommodated in rooms on-site.  Some participants of large groups may stay in the nearby hotel, just two minutes walk along the beach.

Sun loungers and parasols are provided free of charge and there are comfortable chairs and a settee on the veranda above the beach for relaxing. You are also welcome to enjoy the yoga space at times when it is not being used.  There are a small super-market and boutique close by. A short walk takes you to the central village with its cafes, restaurants and shops.

Yoga Classes
There will be two yoga classes per day with one day of rest. Our yoga space, which is fully equipped, is in the perfect location - above the beach looking out to the sea.  There are no yoga sessions on Thursday to give the group the opportunity to travel further afield if they wish and to have time for excursions for those who want to explore.

We may travel to the other side of the island on one evening to have our class directly on the beach. This can be followed with dinner at the beachside taverna.

The general daily schedule is:
  • Revitalising morning yoga class
  • Breakfast/brunch buffet
  • Free time to relax or choose an activity on offer
  • Evening yoga & meditation
  • Vegetarian buffet dinner (Meat dishes available)
  • Free evening to venture into town or relax
